Good Console "Party" Games

Posted by fabulous999 - December 23rd, 2009

I go to the store, I look at the games. They all look like flaming piles of shit. What's a good multi-player game for get-togethers and such? My friends and I typically play Worms Armageddon, Street Fighter II Turbo HD and Puzzle Fighter off of X Box Live. Mainly interested in good head-to-head style games preferably that don't require a split-screen. I've been thinking about Dragon Age Origins for myself, mainly because of all the hype that it's a throw back to Baldur's Gate, but mostly want something that's not exclusively single-player. 99% of the time I hate first-person shooters. I have a little expendable cash from the holidays. I own a Wii, a PSP and a 360. Sell me something amazing.

And am I the only person that still wants to play top down isometric RPGs? Fallout 3 was fun but nowhere near as interesting as the originals. I'm not interested in linear assed JRPGs either with the little command screen during battles that have been done a billion times so don't bother suggesting any. I haven't played a game in the last 10 years that I honestly felt a little lost in or that I couldn't beat, unless it means setting it to some absurd difficulty level, so I rarely bother playing or keeping up with games anymore. I just groan at the walls of unoriginal hackneyed garbage.

I feel a tangent coming on so I'll leave it there.

Super Smash Bros Brawl for Wii never gets old!

Ooh, I've got that. The only thing is nobody likes to play me because I kick too much ass.

Armored Core 4 or for answer

I dunno, never really enjoyed the original armored core games. They always seemed to look more fun than they ended up being.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is good local multiplayer fun!

I mean maybe it it kid friendly, but be honest....Mario never gets old.

Very true.

One more thing...

for the 360....play Mass Effect. Done.

I have that one too. I definitely enjoyed it but I still haven't played a newfangled next gen action/rpg that could hold a candle to the old fallouts and baldur's gateseses. I feel like those classic RPGs had a lot more strategy involved in the combat and how you used your characters and I never felt like missions were arbitrary filler. The thing I hate most about new RPGs is there's never a trade-off, just a difference. Like the whole hacking or lockpicking in Fallout 3 felt dumb, as if almost every locked fucking door has the same terminal next too it that you can just hack with the same convenient mini-game. Maybe it's me. The thing I liked most about Mass Effect was the style and the way it felt pretty epic and strange at times. I just don't get that feeling as much as I used too.

maybe try mario kart wii? its pretty good if you like racing games

Yeah, any of the Nintendo franchise games always tend to be pretty sweet. Are the Warioware things any good?

good luck finding new super mario bros wii :( sold out EVERYWHERE D:

BASTARDS

Pikmin 2 = Best Multiplayer Ever.

I've had my eye on that one too. Thanks everyone for the great suggestions.

I feel kinda shameless saying it, but I think Castle Crashers is a good choice for a multi-player party RPG with head to head portions. :)

Haha, you're awesome. I've been meaning to get that though. I've had lots of fun playing Alien Hominid with friends.

wii sports resort, or how about going out and causing trouble

I've caused enough trouble in my short life, I think I owe it to everyone to play video games for a while.

You know, your playing the most fucking oldest games in the history of consolekind. Get a fucking life and buy Left 4 Dead 2, assassin's creed, modern warfare 2. And get DA origins, its fucking godlike if your looking for a challenge.

Assassin's Creed just plain doesn't interest me. First person shooters are always meh as I have yet to play one more enjoyable than Duke Nukem 3D or Counter Strike in terms of multi-player. I've been wanting Dragon Age Origins though.

I think for the Wii, WarioWare: Smooth Moves & Rayman: Raving Rabbids are the best (and humiliating) games if you're thinking of multiplayer.

The "raving rabbids" always appeared incredibly obnoxious and other than you I've never heard any positive feedback on it. I may just get the WarioWare though, unless someone talks me out of it...

Dude same here :D

Beebo?
